About Guyana
Guyana sits west of Suriname on the Atlantic coast. Georgetown, the capital, is a wooden colonial city laid out below sea level behind seawalls. Most of the country is forest and savannah, with the Iwokrama and Kaieteur protected areas anchoring some of the most intact primary rainforest left on earth. Kaieteur Falls, in the country's interior, drops 226 meters in a single uninterrupted plunge, more than four times the height of Niagara, reached only by a 50-minute flight over roadless rainforest.

Getting here and around
There are three ways in. Most international visitors fly into Cheddi Jagan International Airport, 30 to 70 minutes from Georgetown depending on traffic. From Paramaribo, Surinam Airways and Gum Air both fly to Georgetown, with Gum Air's small aircraft making the city-to-city hop in 45 minutes between Zorg en Hoop and Ogle. Or you can go overland, which takes most of a day: a pre-dawn drive west to South Drain, the Canawaima ferry across the Corantijn River to Moleson Creek, then the coast road to Georgetown.
The Canawaima ferry sails once a day, at 10:00 AM. The crossing takes about 30 minutes. The ferry does not run on January 1, May 1, December 25 or December 26. There is no second sailing if you miss it, which is why our overland transfers leave Paramaribo around 5:00 AM. Guyana is one hour behind Suriname, so an overland day usually reaches Georgetown around 4:00 PM local time.

Suriname ↔ Guyana (Private)

We arrange the whole journey: a dedicated air-conditioned car with driver, the Canawaima ferry across the Corantijn River and border crossing assistance, so you travel in comfort with no waiting on other passengers and no shared stops. The ferry runs once a day, so this is a full travel day, but a private and far smoother one. From USD 450 per vehicle.
