Wildlife and Nature

Observe, don't interact. Resist the temptation to hold, feed or touch wildlife. Animals kept for tourist photos are often captured or kept in stressful conditions. Appreciate wildlife from a respectful distance and follow your guide's instructions.

Stay on marked trails. The rainforest is fragile. Stick to established paths to minimize impact on vegetation and avoid disturbing wildlife habitats.

Leave no trace. Carry out all waste, including cigarette butts. If you see litter, pick it up.

Cultural Respect

Ask before photographing. Always request permission before taking photos of people, their homes or belongings. Most locals won't mind, but asking shows respect.

Support local economies. Buy from local artisans and businesses. Pay fair prices for goods and services.

Respect traditions. The Guianas are home to diverse communities with distinct customs. Follow your guide's advice on appropriate dress and behavior, especially in villages and religious sites. Remove shoes when entering homes.

Child Protection

Don't give directly to children. Well-intentioned gifts can encourage begging and create dependency. If you want to contribute, work through local schools, community projects or your guide.

Report exploitation. If you witness child labor, forced labor or any form of exploitation, report it immediately to your guide or contact us directly.

Resource Conservation

Reduce plastic waste. Tap water is safe to drink in major cities. Bring a reusable water bottle and refill rather than buying disposable bottles. Many lodges offer filtered water.

Conserve water and energy. Turn off lights, air conditioning and electronics when leaving your room.

Choose experiences carefully. Avoid attractions that keep wild animals in captivity for entertainment. Ask how tourism benefits local communities.
