When you are already in Suriname, Guyana is an easy add-on for the two experiences most travelers come for: the colonial city of Georgetown and Kaieteur Falls, one of the world's most powerful single-drop waterfalls. This three-day, two-night tour runs overland from Paramaribo across the Corantijn River into Guyana, covers Georgetown and Kaieteur, then returns overland to Suriname.
The itinerary is built around the Kaieteur flight, which operates on fixed days. The scheduled flight from Georgetown departs on Saturdays and Sundays, so we recommend arriving in Georgetown on a Friday or Saturday. This places your Kaieteur flight and Georgetown city tour together on Day 2. Day 1 and Day 3 are the overland border crossings.
The standard tour uses shared overland transfers and shared touring in Guyana. Private transfers, one-way or return flights between the two countries and a shorter two-day version are available as options.
Full itinerary
Pickup from your Paramaribo accommodation in the early morning, around 5:00 AM, by shared transfer. The drive to the South Drain ferry terminal takes approximately 3.5 hours, with exact pickup time depending on how many travelers are collected along the way. At the terminal you buy your ferry ticket with your passport and yellow fever certificate. The ferry departs the Suriname side at 10:00 AM and crosses the Corantijn River to Moleson Creek in Guyana in about 25 to 30 minutes. After immigration formalities, you continue by shared ground transfer (approximately 3 hours) to Georgetown, with drop-offs at accommodations in order. Overnight in Georgetown.
Note: Suriname is one hour ahead of Guyana. Keep this in mind for any onward arrangements.
After breakfast, your guide leads a city tour of Georgetown's historic core, partly on foot and partly by vehicle: St. George's Cathedral (1892, built from Guyanese greenheart wood and one of the world's tallest wooden churches), Stabroek Market, the Botanical Gardens and the city's colonial heritage. The city tour runs approximately three hours.
A scenic flight then takes you to Kaieteur National Park. The flight is 50 minutes each way over unbroken rainforest, with approximately two hours on the ground at the falls. You return to Georgetown and transfer to your hotel for a second night.
Note: Depending on the day's flight schedule, your guide will run either the Kaieteur flight or the city tour first. You will be notified in advance.
Pickup from your Georgetown hotel in the early morning, around 5:00 AM, with approximately 3 hours of driving to the ferry terminal. You keep your existing ferry ticket. After the river crossing and immigration, you continue to Paramaribo and are dropped at your accommodation.
Note: It is possible that you change vehicle at the border, as the Suriname and Guyana legs are operated by different ground transport.

What makes this tour
Kaieteur Falls, a 226-meter single-drop waterfall reached by a 50-minute scenic flight over roadless rainforest, with roughly two hours on the ground
Georgetown city tour, the only English-speaking capital on the South American mainland, with wooden colonial architecture, St. George's Cathedral and Stabroek Market
A practical add-on for travelers already in Suriname who want Guyana's two highlights without committing to a full multi-country package
Overland border crossing by the Canawaima ferry across the Corantijn River, handled with guide assistance at both immigration points
Flexible format, with private transfer, one-way or return flights and a shorter two-day version available as upgrades
Practical information
- Departure logic: the tour is timed to the Kaieteur flight, which runs on Saturdays and Sundays. Arrive in Georgetown on a Friday or Saturday so the Kaieteur flight and city tour fall on Day 2. Flights on other days can sometimes be arranged on request.
- Currency: bring cash for the ferry ticket (USD, small denominations). USD is widely accepted in both countries.
