Peperpot Nature Park is a former coffee and cocoa plantation that has been returned to secondary rainforest, now operating as a 700-hectare protected nature reserve approximately 30 minutes from Paramaribo. The site combines colonial agricultural history (founded 17th century) with substantial biodiversity, over 270 bird species, multiple monkey species, sloths and a healthy population of forest mammals.
Tours operate as either daytime (focus on birdlife and primates) or evening/night walks (focus on nocturnal mammals, frogs and insects). Both options are guided.
What to expect
Daytime: Pickup from Paramaribo accommodation (8:00 AM or 3:00 PM departure). Drive to Peperpot, approximately 30 minutes. Walk forest trails with guide, stops at manor house and coffee processing buildings. Approximately 2.5 hours on trail. Return to accommodation.
Night: Pickup at 6:30 PM. Drive to Peperpot. Walk forest trails with red-light flashlights, focus on nocturnal life. Return to Paramaribo by approximately 9:30 PM.
